2022 Belmont Stakes live stream: can Rich Strike win the final leg of the Triple Crown?

The Belmont Stakes 2022 gets underway at Belmont Park, Elmont, on Saturday 11th June. Rich Strike, who won the Kentucky Derby as an 80-1 outsider, will run against hot favourite We the People. The Belmont Stakes start time is coming up, so let’s take a look at the runners, odds, betting predictions – and how to watch a 2022 Belmont Stakes live stream from wherever you are.

Here’s what you need to know:

What: Belmont Stakes 2022

When: Saturday, June 11, 2022

Time: Post-time is 6:49 p.m. ET, with coverage on NBC beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

Where: Belmont Park

TV: NBC

The 2022 Belmont Stakes is the third leg of the Triple Crown, after the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. This year will mark the 154th running of the Belmont Stakes – aka The Test of Champions. Rain is expected at the dirt track, which features some of the widest turns in horse racing, so expect a few surprises.

We the People (2-1) is hot favourite but third favourite Rich Strike, who missed last month's the Preakness Stakes, will be on a mission to prove that his 2022 Kentucky Derby win was no fluke. Could the $30,000 colt become the first non-Triple Crown winner to capture both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont since Thunder Gulch in 1995?

Mo Donegal (5-2) is second favourite, while Nest (8-1) is fifth favourite. That said, half of the last 14 Belmont winners had double-digit odds, so you might want to consider betting on long shots Golden Glider (20-1) and Skippylongstocking (20-1).

The race is on Sky in the UK (start time 11.44pm). Lucky US punters can get instant access to a Peacock live stream for just just $4.99. Make sure you know how to watch a 2022 Belmont Stakes live stream from where you are.

After so many things went right for Rich Strike to win the Kentucky Derby, he’ll likely need even more good fortune at the Belmont Stakes with so much stacked against him.

Rich Strike won’t go off at odds of more than 80-1 this time, but even after bypassing the Preakness to run in the final leg of the Triple Crown, he’s not expected to be the horse to beat in the field of eight. That distinction belongs to 2-1 morning line favorite We the People, a newcomer to the Triple Crown trail who could set the pace in the 1 1/2-mile race and thrive if it rains in New York on Saturday.

If it’s a wet track similar to We the People’s romp to victory in the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park last month, trainer Mark Casse doesn’t like anyone else’s chances.

“We’re all going to be running for second, even the Derby winner,” said Casse, who’s set to saddle Golden Glider in the Belmont. Golden Glider finished a distant second to We the People in the Peter Pan on May 14.

Rich Strike ran past 19 other horses in shocking fashion on May 7 to become the second biggest long shot to win the Derby. Even that took myriad factors to happen: sharp training at Churchill Downs the week before, the withdrawal of Ethereal Road to get into the field, a hot pace, the perfect trip and the kind of acceleration he had never shown before in a race.

Horse racing fans aren't going to watch a racehorse win the Triple Crown in 2022, but there are still plenty of reasons to be excited about the 2022 Belmont Stakes.

Both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes have provided fans with thrilling races this year. The derby saw 80-1 longshot Rich Strike emerge with a victory just a day after earning his way into the field as a last-minute replacement. Then, the Preakness saw Early Voting take down Epicenter in a neck-and-neck contest.

Rich Strike will be the only horse with a chance to earn a second Triple Crown jewel in 2022, as Early Voting is sitting out of the Belmont given the tight window between it and the Preakness. However, the Derby-winning colt, who will be ridden by Sonny Leon, will face stiff competition from Mo Donegal and We the People in the longest of the three Triple Crown races.

Preakness Stakes winner Early Voting and Derby and Preakness betting favorite Epicenter will both skip the Belmont Stakes and instead look ahead to the Travers Stakes in August at Saratoga.
